Putting it All Together
Contemplation
Take a moment to notice the similarity between the concept of karma and Newton's Third Law of Motion. Newton's third law states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Contemplate this then journal what this means to you and your life.
Karma is a concept that originates from Hinduism and Buddhism, while Newton's Third Law of Motion is a scientific principle developed by the father of classical physics, Isaac Newton. Despite these concepts originating from vastly different schools of thought, there is notable similarity between these two concepts.
Newton's Third Law of Motion states that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. This means that when a force is exerted upon an object, the object exerts a force of equal magnitude in the opposite direction. In other words, every action has consequences. Similarly, the concept of karma suggests that every action we take has consequences or reactions.
When we contemplate the similarity between karma and Newton's Third Law of Motion, we can see:
- Both concepts emphasize cause and effect. Every action or force exerted leads to a corresponding reaction.
- In both cases, the consequences or reactions may not be immediate. They can manifest over time, sometimes in unexpected ways.
- Both concepts highlight the idea of personal responsibility. Our actions have an impact on the world around us, and we are accountable for the choices we make.
May consistent themes between differing systems of thought (modern science vs. ancient philosophy) suggest their validity?
